By translation

The NIV remains the default UK Bible by a clear margin, but the gap to the ESV has narrowed materially over the last three years as evangelical churches standardise on Crossway editions. The CSB is the fastest-growing translation in our data, up 34% year-on-year — see our companion translation market deep-dive for the full growth picture.

By format

Imitation leather narrowly leads hardback as the most popular UK Bible binding — a function of price-banding more than preference. Premium goatskin remains a small but resilient 4% of unit volume and a much higher share of revenue.

When the UK buys Bibles

Bible buying in the UK is intensely seasonal. The chart below indexes monthly demand against the annual average (100). Three peaks repeat every year: May (confirmation and wedding season), September (return to church and the academic year), and December, by far the biggest month.

Methodology

Figures are built from blended order-line data across Bibles.co.uk and partner channels for calendar year 2026 to date. We exclude wholesale and bulk orders above 25 units to keep the figures representative of individual buying behaviour, and de-duplicate repeat customer orders within a 30-day window. Translation, format and growth figures are recalculated weekly. Indices are relative, not absolute units — we don't share absolute volumes.

This is not an industry-body figure and does not replace publisher-reported sales. It is offered as one independent UK specialist's view of the market, refreshed annually. Full editorial and sourcing notes are on our editorial standards page.
